Compare the2024 Maserati GranTurismoVS 2024 Lexus LC

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranTurismo has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The LC doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranTurismo has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The LC doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Both the GranTurismo and the LC have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The GranTurismo Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 129 more horsepower (483 vs. 354) and 93 lbs.-ft. more torque (443 vs. 350) than the LC 500h’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid. The GranTurismo Modena’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 12 more horsepower (483 vs. 471) and 45 lbs.-ft. more torque (443 vs. 398) than the LC 500’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8. The GranTurismo Trofeo’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 71 more horsepower (542 vs. 471) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 398) than the LC 500’s standard 5.0 DOHC V8.

On the EPA test cycle the GranTurismo gets better mileage than the LC Coupe:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranTurismo’s fuel efficiency. The LC doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regardless of its engine, the GranTurismo’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. Lexus only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the LC Hybrid, and doesn’t offer a disable button.

All wheel drive, available in the GranTurismo, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Lexus LC is not available with all wheel drive.

The GranTurismo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The LC doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the GranTurismo has larger tires than the LC (F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21 vs. F:245/45R20 & R:275/40R20).

The GranTurismo’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LC’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires. The GranTurismo’s tires are lower profile than the LC’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranTurismo has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the LC.

The front and rear suspension of the GranTurismo uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the LC, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranTurismo has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranTurismo’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The LC doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo’s wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than on the LC (115.3 inches vs. 113 inches).

The Maserati GranTurismo may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 450 pounds less than the Lexus LC.

The design of the Maserati GranTurismo amounts to more than styling. The GranTurismo has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is significantly lower than the LC (.33 to .34). A more efficient exterior helps the GranTurismo go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GranTurismo get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the GranTurismo uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The LC doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GranTurismo has 3.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the LC (89 vs. 85.9).

The GranTurismo has a much larger trunk than the LC (10.9 vs. 5.4 cubic feet).

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the GranTurismo’s trunk can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The GranTurismo also offers an optional power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper. The LC doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the LC, the GranTurismo has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranTurismo’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The LC does not have an oil pressure gauge.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranTurismo to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The LC doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The LC’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The GranTurismo’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranTurismo has standard extendable sun visors. The LC doesn’t offer extendable visors.

When the GranTurismo is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The LC’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranTurismo has standard rear heat vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The LC doesn’t offer rear vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranTurismo has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The LC doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
