Safety

Both the Grecale and Stelvio have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Grecale has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Stelvio’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Grecale are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Grecale has standard Active Park Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Stelvio doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Grecale offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Stelvio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Grecale and the Stelvio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Engine

The Grecale Modena V6’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 105 more horsepower (385 vs. 280) and 62 lbs.-ft. more torque (368 vs. 306) than the Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Grecale Trofeo’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 243 more horsepower (523 vs. 280) and 151 lbs.-ft. more torque (457 vs. 306) than the Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The Grecale Folgore’s standard electric motors produces 262 more horsepower (542 vs. 280) and 298 lbs.-ft. more torque (604 vs. 306) than the Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Grecale running on electricity gets better mileage than the Stelvio:

The Grecale can travel with zero emissions for 206 to 245 miles (dependent on model). The Stelvio can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Grecale Trofeo’s fuel efficiency. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Grecale GT/Modena’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission

The Grecale Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Stelvio doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Grecale’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Stelvio:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Grecale has larger standard tires than the Stelvio (255/45R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The Grecale Folgore’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stelvio’s standard 55 series tires. The Grecale’s optional 295/35R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series profile than the Stelvio’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Grecale Folgore has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Stelvio.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Grecale uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Stelvio, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Grecale has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Grecale’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grecale Modena V6’s wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer than on the Stelvio (114.2 inches vs. 110.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Grecale is .2 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Stelvio.

Passenger Space

The Grecale has 5.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Stelvio (103 vs. 97.6).

The Grecale has 4.7 inches more front legroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room and 4.7 inches more rear legroom than the Stelvio.

Cargo Capacity

The Grecale has a much larger cargo volume than the Stelvio with its rear seat up (20.1 vs. 18.5 cubic feet).

The Grecale’s cargo area is larger than the Stelvio’s in almost every dimension:

Towing

The Grecale’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Stelvio’s (5071 vs. 3000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is only 3000 pounds. The Grecale offers up to a 5516 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Mitigation on the Grecale uses the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Stelvio doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Grecale’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Stelvio has neither an oil pressure gauge nor a temperature gauge.

The Grecale offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Stelvio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the Grecale the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Stelvio can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Grecale’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Stelvio’s xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

When the Grecale is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Stelvio’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Grecale keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Stelvio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

Economic Advantages

According to iSeeCars.com the 2025 Maserati Grecale retains 41.88% of its original value after 5 years, more than the 41.36% resale value of the 2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio after five years, which can save the Maserati’s owner.
