Compare the2024 Maserati GranCabrioVS 2024 Porsche 911

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranCabrio has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The 911 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GranCabrio. But it costs extra on the 911.

The GranCabrio’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 911 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GranCabrio and the 911 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Maserati GranCabrio weighs 527 to 1094 pounds more than the Porsche 911. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 163 more horsepower (542 vs. 379) and 156 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 331) than the 911’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 99 more horsepower (542 vs. 443) and 97 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 390) than the 911 S’ standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The GranCabrio’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 69 more horsepower (542 vs. 473) and 67 lbs.-ft. more torque (487 vs. 420) than the 911 GTS/Dakar’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the GranCabrio gets better mileage than the 911 Cabriolet:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranCabrio’s fuel efficiency. The 911 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The GranCabrio has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the 911’s standard fuel tank (18.5 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranCabrio higher (5 out of 10) than the Porsche 911 (3 to 5). This means the GranCabrio produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 911 every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the GranCabrio’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the 911:

For better traction, the GranCabrio has larger front tires than the 911 (F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21 vs. F:235/40R19 & R:295/35R20).

The GranCabrio’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911 Dakar’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranCabrio has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are standard on the 911.

The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the 911, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranCabrio has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The 911 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio’s wheelbase is 18.8 inches longer than on the 911 (115.3 inches vs. 96.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GranCabrio is 2.1 inches wider in the front and 3.9 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 911.

The GranCabrio’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the 911’s (39.5% to 60.5%). This gives the GranCabrio more stable handling and braking.

The GranCabrio has 16 cubic feet more passenger volume than the 911 (89 vs. 73).

The GranCabrio has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 911 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the 911, the GranCabrio has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranCabrio offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 911 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The GranCabrio has standard Extended Keyless Go that allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. The 911 GT3 doesn’t offer Comfort Access.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranCabrio to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The 911 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranCabrio has standard extendable sun visors. The 911 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The GranCabrio has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 911.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranCabrio has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The 911 doesn’t offer rear vents.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranCabrio has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the glovebox. The 911 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
