Compare the2024 Maserati GhibliVS 2024 Audi S6

2024 Maserati Ghibli
2024 Audi S6

Safety

The Ghibli has standard Anti-Whiplash Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The S6 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Ghibli has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the S6’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Ghibli has standard Rear Cross Path, helping the driver avoid collisions. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the S6.

Both the Ghibli and the S6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Maserati vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Maserati above average in initial quality. With 39 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is rated below average.

Engine

The Ghibli Trofeo’s standard 3.8 turbo V8 produces 128 more horsepower (572 vs. 444) and 96 lbs.-ft. more torque (538 vs. 442) than the S6’s 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Ghibli has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the S6 (21.1 vs. 19.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The S6 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

The Ghibli Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S6 doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

The Ghibli stops shorter than the S6:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the Ghibli has larger standard rear tires than the S6 (275/40R19 vs. 255/35R21). The Ghibli’s optional rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the S6 (285/35R20 vs. 255/35R21).

The Ghibli’s optional 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S6’s 35 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Ghibli’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The S6 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ghibli’s wheelbase is 2.7 inches longer than on the S6 (118 inches vs. 115.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is .1 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the S6.

The Ghibli Modena Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the S6 Prestige pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Ghibli Modena Q4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the S6 Prestige (25.5 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26 seconds @ 74 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Ghibli’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the S6’s (38.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The Maserati Ghibli may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 500 pounds less than the Audi S6.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Ghibli a Large car, while the S6 is rated a Mid-size.

The Ghibli has 9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the S6 (108 vs. 99).

The Ghibli has .8 inches more front headroom and .7 inches more rear headroom than the S6.

Cargo Capacity

The Ghibli has a much larger trunk than the S6 (17.7 vs. 13.7 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Ghibli easier. The Ghibli’s trunk lift-over height is 25.8 inches, while the S6’s liftover is 27 inches.

Model Availability

The Ghibli is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The S6 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
