The McLaren GTS has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 911 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the McLaren GTS and the 911 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The GTS comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 911’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

McLaren pays for scheduled maintenance on the McLaren GTS for 2 years and unlimited miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the 911 (3/unlimited vs. 1/10,000).

The McLaren GTS’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 238 more horsepower (626 vs. 388) and 134 lbs.-ft. more torque (465 vs. 331) than the 911’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The McLaren GTS’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 153 more horsepower (626 vs. 473) and 75 lbs.-ft. more torque (465 vs. 390) than the 911 S’ standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The McLaren GTS has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the 911’s standard fuel tank (19 vs. 16.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The McLaren GTS has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 911 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the McLaren GTS higher (5 out of 10) than the Porsche 911 (4 to 5). This means the McLaren GTS produces up to 5.2 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 911 every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the McLaren GTS’ standard brake rotors are larger than those on the 911:

The McLaren GTS’ 225/35R20 front and 295/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the McLaren GTS has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are standard on the 911.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the McLaren GTS’ wheelbase is 8.8 inches longer than on the 911 (105.3 inches vs. 96.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the McLaren GTS is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 2.2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 911.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional in the 911, the McLaren GTS offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the McLaren GTS the driver can close all of them from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the 911 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The McLaren GTS has standard Keyless Entry and Lock that allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. The 911 GT3 doesn’t offer Comfort Access.
