Safety

The McLaren Artura has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 296 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Artura has standard tall side airbags which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and outboard passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The 296 doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head.

Both the Artura and the 296 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

The Artura comes with a full 5-year/45000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 296’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years sooner.

The Artura’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the 296’s (10 vs. 3 years).

Fuel Economy and Range

The Artura can travel longer on electricity, only, on a full charge than the 296 GTB on electricity, only, on a full charge:

The Artura has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 296 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Suspension and Handling

The Artura has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The 296 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Artura’s wheelbase is 1.5 inches longer than on the 296 (103.9 inches vs. 102.4 inches).

The Artura’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (41.9% to 58.1%) than the 296’s (40.5% to 59.5%). This gives the Artura more stable handling and braking.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Artura easier. The Artura’s trunk lift-over height is 20.4 inches, while the 296’s liftover is 21.7 inches.

Ergonomics

When five different drivers share the Artura, the optional memory system makes it convenient for each of them. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The 296 doesn’t offer a memory system.

The Artura’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 296’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the Artura Convertible has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the Artura Convertible has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The 296 doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in, turn the ignition on and raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the Artura detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The 296 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

When the Artura with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The 296’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Artura offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the 296.

Compared to the Ferrari 296’s traditional radio, the McLaren Artura equipped with standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks.
