A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Bentayga helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then projects the image on the windshield, near the driver’s line of sight. The XC60 doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Bentayga and the XC60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.

The Bentley Bentayga weighs 574 to 1676 pounds more than the Volvo XC60. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Bentayga comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XC60’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The Bentayga Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 209 more horsepower (456 vs. 247) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the XC60 B5’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The Bentayga Hybrid’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 1 more horsepower (456 vs. 455) than the XC60 T8’s standard 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid. The Bentayga’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 87 more horsepower (542 vs. 455) and 45 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 523) than the XC60 T8’s standard 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Bentley Bentayga turbo V8 is faster than the XC60 T8 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Bentayga V8’s fuel efficiency. The XC60 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the Bentayga and the XC60 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Bentaygas have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The XC60 T8 doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

The Bentayga Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has a gallon more fuel capacity than the XC60 (19.8 vs. 18.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Bentayga’s standard fuel tank has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the XC60 (22.5 vs. 18.8 gallons).

For better stopping power the Bentayga’s brake rotors are larger than those on the XC60:

The Bentayga SPEED offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The XC60 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Bentayga has larger tires than the XC60 (285/45R21 vs. 235/60R18). The Bentayga’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XC60 (285/45R21 vs. 265/35R22).

The Bentayga’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XC60’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Bentayga has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XC60. The Bentayga’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the XC60.

The Bentayga offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The XC60 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Bentayga uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the XC60, which uses coil springs in front and transverse leafs springs in the rear. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Bentayga offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Volvo doesn’t offer an active suspension on the XC60.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Bentayga’s wheelbase is 5.1 inches longer than on the XC60 (117.9 inches vs. 112.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Bentayga is 1.4 inches wider in the front and 2 inches wider in the rear than on the XC60.

The Bentayga S handles at .88 G’s, while the XC60 Recharge Polestar Engineered pulls only .86 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Bentayga SPEED executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.7 seconds quicker than the XC60 B5 Core (24.6 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Bentayga has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XC60 (9.7 vs. 8.5 inches), allowing the Bentayga to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Bentayga has 6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XC60 (109 vs. 103).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Bentayga’s rear seats recline. The XC60’s rear seats don’t recline.

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the Bentayga’s rear seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The XC60 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The Bentayga’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the XC60’s (7165 vs. 3500 pounds).

The engine in the Bentayga is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the XC60. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The Bentayga’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The XC60 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Bentayga to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the XC60.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Bentayga offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The XC60 doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Bentayga has standard extendable sun visors. The XC60 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Bentayga to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XC60 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Bentayga’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The XC60 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Bentayga has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the XC60.

Both the Bentayga and the XC60 offer available massaging front seats. The Bentayga also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the XC60.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Bentley Bentayga has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) on the dashboard and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the XC60.

The Bentayga’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The XC60 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
