An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The G-Class doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Urus offers an optional Top View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The G-Class only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the Urus uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The G-Class uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

Both the Urus and the G-Class have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The Urus comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The G-Class’ 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Lamborghini pays for scheduled maintenance on the Urus for 5 years and 75000 miles. Lamborghini will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 5 visits). Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the G-Class.

The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 241 more horsepower (657 vs. 416) and 177 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 450) than the G 550’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 80 more horsepower (657 vs. 577) than the AMG G 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The G-Class doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Urus stops much shorter than the G-Class:

For better traction, the Urus has larger standard tires than the G-Class (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. 275/55R19).

The Urus’ standard 285/45R21 front and 315/40R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G 550’s standard 55 series tires. The Urus’ optional 285/35R23 front and 325/30R23 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the G-Class’ optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Urus has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the G 550. The Urus’ optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 22-inch wheels optional on the G-Class.

For superior ride and handling, the Lamborghini Urus has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Mercedes G-Class has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Urus has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The G-Class doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Urus uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the G-Class, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Urus S offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Mercedes doesn’t offer an active suspension on the G-Class.

The Urus S has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Urus’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The G-Class doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Urus S’ wheelbase is 4.4 inches longer than on the G-Class (118.2 inches vs. 113.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Urus is 2.3 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the G-Class.

The Urus Performante handles at 1.04 G’s, while the AMG G 63 pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Urus Performante executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 7.6 seconds quicker than the G 550 (23.1 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 30.7 seconds @ .53 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Urus’ turning circle is 5.9 feet tighter than the G-Class’ (38.7 feet vs. 44.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Urus has a greater minimum ground clearance than the G-Class (9.8 vs. 9.5 inches), allowing the Urus to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Lamborghini Urus may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 800 to 1000 pounds less than the Mercedes G-Class.

The Urus is 13.7 inches shorter in height than the G-Class, making the Urus much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Unibody construction lowers the Urus’ center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles. The G-Class doesn’t use unibody construction, but a body-on-frame design.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Urus has standard flush composite headlights. The G-Class has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The Urus has 2.9 inches more front legroom, 1.1 inches more front shoulder room and .5 inches more rear legroom than the G-Class.

The Urus’ liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The G-Class’ swing out door blocks loading from the driver’s side.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Urus has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button, or optionally by just kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The G-Class doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

The Urus’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the G-Class’ (7716 vs. 7000 pounds).

The Urus offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and tachometer readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The G-Class doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Urus to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The G-Class doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Urus’ optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The G-Class’ automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
