For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lamborghini Urus are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW X5 M doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The X5 M doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Urus and X5 M offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Urus with Rear Cross-Traffic Assist also has Automatic Brake Activation (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The X5 M’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Urus and the X5 M have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The Urus comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The X5 M’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Lamborghini pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 5 visits) on the Urus for 2 years and 39000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the X5 M (5/75000 vs. 3/36,000).

The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 57 more horsepower (657 vs. 600) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 553) than the X5 M’s standard 4.4 turbo V8. The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 40 more horsepower (657 vs. 617) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 553) than the X5 M Competition’s standard 4.4 turbo V8.

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The X5 M doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Urus offers optional 23-inch wheels. The X5 M’s largest wheels are only 21-inches in the front and 22-inches in the rear.

The front and rear suspension of the Urus uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the X5 M, which uses coil springs in front. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Urus S has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Urus’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The X5 M doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Urus S’ wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the X5 M (118.2 inches vs. 117 inches).

For better maneuverability, the Urus’ turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the X5 M’s (38.7 feet vs. 42 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Urus has a greater minimum ground clearance than the X5 M (8.4 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the Urus to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Urus’ liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The X5 M’s tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

The Urus has a 7716 lbs. towing capacity. The X5 M has no towing capacity.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Urus offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The X5 M doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Urus’ optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The X5 M’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
